If I were at the Walt Disney World Resort today, my mood would be ambitious! You see today, there was the distinct and RARE opportunity to experience TWO parks with Extra Morning Magic Hour! Both Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom each open one hour early to resort guests and at different times. Doing both is going to be tough, maybe even impossible, but I have a plan. Of course I do. 😉 Hey, maybe I need a custom Celebrations Shirt for this challenge?
I would have woken up by 5:00am and hopped in an Uber by 6:00am, heading over to Hollywood Studios for a 7:00am Extra Magic Hour opening. I would only have my MagicBand with me, no park bag. This is important, I need to be able to bypass long and time consuming security lines.
Confident I would be close to the front of the line —having arrived so early— I would hightail it to Toy Story Land and hop on “Slinky Dog Dash” with little to no wait and “Toy Story Midway Mania” both before 7:30. If time allowed, I’d try for Alien Swirling Saucers, but it’s not a must. With those two or three major attractions complete, I would make my way toward the park exit and —and here is where you need to pay close attention—I would splurge on a Minnie Van!Knowing that a Minnie Van is the only way to get me as close to the Magic Kingdom as possible and the fastest, that’s what I would do if I really wanted to make this happen and still have the Extra Magic Hour be useful.
Opening the Lyft app before I even get to the pick up area, I would start the process of ordering the car. I figure it will take me about 15 minutes to exit the park and get inside a Minnie Van. Once I am on my way to the Magic Kingdom, I should arrive at the front gates about 8:00am (give or take)-just in time for the Extra Magic Hour to begin over there! Even if I arrive at 8:15am, with no park bag to check, it’s a win!
In the car, I would be checking the My Disney Experience app to see which attractions had the shortest wait. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain by this time will be flooded by all the EMH goers who arrived earlier, so I would likely go for quantity and hit the less popular attractions as walk-ons. Then, near the 9:00 hour, head over to the hold line by “it’s a small world” to make a beeline for “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad” once the park officially opens. (If you’ve never done this, it’s like the old escorted mob up Main Street USA, how Cast Members lead you to Big Thunder to make sure nobody gets trampled by inconsiderate guests.)
Now of course, there could be some unforeseen factors that either help or hinder. Hollywood Studios could open up at 6:45am and allow guests to make their way to Toy Story Land or the attractions I am looking to ride could be out of service. Minnie Vans could be slow to respond or there could be one waiting right there. Regardless of those variables, I do think it is POSSIBLE that I could essentially have attended Extra Morning Magic Hours at two theme parks today. Maybe I’m Disney Dreamin’ but what a Friday fantasy! -Kat
